EJHL WEEKLY RECAP

Date: Jan 27, 2010

Boston, MA- As the end of January approaches, the Eastern Junior Hockey League battles are starting to heat up and the action produced many surprises in the past week

Syracuse hosted the Monarchs for a pair and took three points from the Northern Division leaders. On Saturday, the Monarchs put together an impressive rally from three goals down early in the second period. John Hero's power play goal in the third period, however, gave Syracuse the 7-6 victory. Sunday saw the Monarchs down two goals again in the second, but Patrick Kiley and Brooks Herrington forced overtime, and Alex Gacek finished the job with two minutes remaining.

Capital District likewise took three points from the Junior Bruins. The Bruins won on Saturday thanks to Thane Heller's overtime goal, but Capital District turned the tables on Sunday as Nick Zaino's third-period goal lifted the Selects to a 2-1 win.

The Bruins started the week off with a 4-0 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday.

Apple Core kicked off the week with a 3-2 home win over Philadelphia on Wednesday before a pair with Bay State. The Breakers took Saturday's contest 5-2, but Apple Core goaltender Nick Therrien stole the show on Sunday and Apple Core won 2-1.

The Valley Jr. Warriors and Green Mountain Glades are locked in a tight battle for the last playoff spot in the North, and this past weekend did little to slow either team down. Valley beat the Huskies 4-1 in their only action, while the Glades swept Bridgewater, winning 3-2 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday.

The Southern Division leaders, the South Shore Kings, downed the Huskies 3-2 on Sunday.

The Jersey Hitmen continued their strong play with a sweep of the Pics in Springfield. The Hitmen won the first game 8-3 and finished the weekend with a 7-1 victory.
